YLU Volunteer Month Competition

untitledApril is National Volunteer Month!

To recognize this occasion Young Leaders United (YLU) members are encouraged to volunteer as much as possible and will be participating in a Volunteer Drive with VOLU.  VOLU is a local Volunteer Management Software company based right here in Syracuse who is looking to promote volunteerism in CNY.  YLU will be competing with other groups such as Believe in Syracuse, 40 Below, Salvation Army Young Leaders, SU, ESF, OCC, and LeMoyne College to see who can record the most volunteer hours.

There are 3 featured Volunteer Events during the month that we are encouraging you to attend:  Success by 6 Book Sort, Sandwiches for Samaritan Center, and Earth Day Clean Up.

Success by 6 Book SortSaturday, April 9th 10am- noon, United Way’s Gifford Room

Join Success by 6 as donated books are counted and sorted into different reading levels.  Once sorted, these books will be distributed to area child care centers, after school programs, and other organizations in need of children books. Also give us a call if you have any books to donate.

To volunteer contact Success by 6 at The United Way 428-2211 or email mgao@unitedway-cny.org.

Sandwiches for Samaritan Center – TBD

This is your opportunity to make 200+ sandwiches for the Samaritan Center.  We are encouraging YLU to make this a work place group project.  All of the supplies: bread, deli meat, Ziploc bags, bread, and gloves will be brought to your workplace for assembly.  Get your co-workers involved and promote volunteerism.  You name the place and time (before work, lunch time, or after work).  Please contact Shavel to secure your company’s slot for this sandwich making event.  Limit 3 work sites.

Earth Day Clean Up – Saturday, April 23rd

Help us clean up and beautify the Syracuse Community.  We will clean up a Syracuse area Park by removing the debris and trash that has collected over the winter months.  Refreshments and cleaning supplies will be provided. Please contact Shavel if you have suggestions for a park clean up location or to volunteer.   Please note this is a “Family Friendly” event.

Download the VOLU app on your smartphone device to find volunteer events near you and make the registration process easier. Event coordinators must register that event on VOLU (Voluapp.com) to participate. Contact Shavel Edwards with any questions at 428-3028 or sedwards@unitedway-cny.org.
